Virus Information - W32/Bagle.J:
W32/Bagle.J is a mass mailing worm. The
worm will infect Windows systems. This worm spread through email
and shared drives on network.
The from address of the infected mail will
be either of the following;
support@<domain name>.
staff@<domain name>.
noreply@<domain name>.
management@<domain name>.
administration@<domain name>.
The <domain name > will be same as the domain present in the email address,
to which the infected mail being sent.
The subject of the infected email
will be any one of the following;
E-mail account security warning.
Notify about using the e-mail account.
Warning about your e-mail account.
Important notify about your e-mail account.
Email account utilization warning.
Notify about your e-mail account utilization.
E-mail account disabling warning.
The body of the infected email will
be any one the following;
"Dear user of "<domain
name>" mailing system,"
"Dear user of <domain name>,"
"Dear user of <domain name> gateway e-mail server,"
"Dear user, the management of <domain name> mailing system wants
to let you know that,"
"Hello user of <domain name> e-mail server,"
"Dear user of e-mail server "<domain name>"
along with any one of the following;
"Your e-mail account will be disabled
because of improper using in next three days, if you are still wishing
to use it, please, resign your account information."
"Your e-mail account has been temporary disabled because of unauthorized
access."
"Our main mailing server will be temporary unavaible for next two
days, to continue receiving mail in these days you have to configure our
free auto-forwarding service."
"We warn you about some attacks on your e-mail account. Your computer
may contain viruses, in order to keep your computer and e-mail account
safe, please, follow the instructions."
"Some of our clients complained about the spam (negative e-mail content)
outgoing from your e-mail account. Probably, you have been infected by
a proxy-relay trojan server. In order to keep your computer safe, follow
the instructions."

The extension of the attachment will be
any one of the following;
.pif, .zip, .exe
Upon execution of the attachment,
the worm copies itself as irun4.exe and irun4.exeopen in
the Windows System folder. It also checks for a word 'shar'
in the available shared folders in both local and network, if found the
worm copies itself to these folders using the following filenames;

Windown Longhorn Beta Leak.exe
WinAmp 6 New!.exe
WinAmp 5 Pro Keygen Crack Update.exe
Serials.txt.exe

It alters the windows registry at the following

It also attempts to terminate the following

OUTPOST.EXE
UPDATE.EXE
To propagate itself, the worm scans the
following extensions and collects the available email addresses from the
infected system;
.cfg, .asp, .php, .txt, .htm, .dbx,
.mdx, .eml, .nch, .xml, .tbb, .uin, .cgi .mmf, .ods, .pl, .adb, .sht, .wab,
.msg
The worm uses its own SMTP engine to mail
itself to these email addresses.
The worm terminates itself after April 25th, 2004.
